Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride Treatments in Moline, Illinois

We offer fluoride treatments as part of our cleaning service or as a standalone option to combat tooth decay and strengthen enamel against acids, plaque, bacteria, and sugars. Suitable for both children and adults, these treatments can even reverse early signs of decay and are applied using either a gel-filled tray or varnish.

How Does Fluoride Benefit Teeth?

When fluoride bonds with your tooth enamel, it helps reabsorb essential minerals like calcium and phosphate, repairing and reinforcing weakened enamel. This process effectively shields your teeth from bacterial damage and cavity formation.

Who Needs Fluoride Treatment?

Based on your oral health assessment, we will recommend how often you should receive treatment. Be aware of certain symptoms before consulting your dentist for advice.

Children

Since dental cavities are common in children, we advise every 6 months.

Adults

Adults with gum recession, which raises cavity risks, may benefit from biannual fluoride treatments to help protect their teeth.

Braces & Orthodontic Patients

Braces can trap plaque in small spaces, increasing decay risk. Fluoride treatments can prevent this in orthodontic patients.

How Long Does The Fluoride Treatment Last?

The treatment has both immediate and lasting effects. Depending on your oral health, we may suggest routine fluoride maintenance, with intervals typically set at 3, 6, or 12 months, to ensure continued oral health and prevent potential issues.

What are The Consequences of Fluoride Overdose?

Overdosing on fluoride supplements may result in symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, and fatigue. Children under six are advised against using fluoridated toothpaste, as they may not have fully developed the ability to spit effectively. Accumulated fluoride residue in their mouths can contribute to fluorosis, characterized by the formation of brittle spots on teeth. This increases the likelihood of tooth breakage and raises the risk of dental infections in children.
