Wide Range of Dental Services in Moline

At James E. Bishop, D.D.S, we provide a wide range of dental services in Moline, from preventative care to corrective procedures. We work with children and adults and have the expertise to meet a wide range of dental needs.

Examinations

Our Moline dentist office provides dental exams to ensure optimal oral health. We recommend scheduling an exam every six months. We check the overall health of your teeth, gums, tongue, and cheeks, looking for potential problems such as cavities or signs of gum disease. After the exam, we provide you with straightforward information and advise you on follow up care if needed.

X-Rays

X-rays are done every two years to every six months depending on the age of the patient and their oral health history. X-rays detect problems that lie below the gum line, including bone loss, shifting, jaw problems such TMJ, and more. In children, x-rays are used to monitor the development of permanent teeth as they lose their baby teeth. Several images are taken to cover not only your teeth, but your entire jaw and neck as well.

Professional Cleanings

James E. Bishop D.D.S. provides professional cleanings, which are done with every dental exam. We use professional grade tools to remove plaque and tarter. We also floss and brush your teeth with a top of the line electric toothbrush and toothpaste. Specialized deep cleanings such as root planing and scaling to treat gingivitis are also available.

Fluoride Treatments

We also provide fluoride treatments, with a cleaning or as a separate service. These treatments help to prevent tooth decay and make the enamel more resistant to acid, plaque, bacteria, and sugars. It can also reverse early tooth decay. We administer fluoride to both children and adults as needed, using either a gel-filled tray or varnish.

Sealants

Our Moline dentist office also provides sealants, which are tooth colored composite resins used to treat cavities. We begin by removing the decayed tooth material and cleaning the affected area. The remaining tooth is filled with the resin to close off the opening and prevent further decay. We can complete one or more in the same appointment.

Root Canal Therapy

When tooth decay reaches the root of a tooth. This is when we use root canal therapy. A root canal cleans the tooth and deadens the root to stop pain. Once this is complete, a crown is placed over the tooth to close it off from further decay and to protect the remaining part of the tooth.

Tooth Extractions

Our Moline area dentists will try to save your tooth whenever possible, however, sometimes tooth extractions are necessary to preserve the health of your mouth. Extractions are done as a last resort. During this process, we administer a local anesthetic to numb the area. After the tooth is removed, we may fill in the area with a bridge or dental implant after the gum has healed.

Teeth Whitening

If you’ve always wanted a brighter smile, James E. Bishop D.D.S. also offers teeth whitening treatments. Our staff will work with you to determine a customized whitening treatment plan that will work for you.

Mouthguards

If you grind your teeth at night, you may need a mouth guard to protect your teeth from unnecessary wear. We provide custom fitted mouth guards made from a mold of your teeth. Our dentist also provides mouth guards for athletes who play contact sports to wear during game play to protect their teeth and tongue.

Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and bridges are also available, often applied after a root canal procedure. Crowns, or caps, cover a decayed or cracked tooth. Bridges “bridge the gap” between a missing tooth and the surrounding teeth, which help to preserve the bone structure and make it easier to speak and chew.

Dentures

Our Moline area dental office also provides full and partial dentures. Dentures are removable, prosthetic teeth used to replace natural teeth that have been lost due to gum disease. First, the affected teeth are extracted if needed. Then we create a mold of your gums and fit the dentures precisely for your mouth. We can provide immediate, temporary dentures to wear until your permanent dentures are ready. When they come in, you will return to have them put it and receive a final fitting. Adjustments and new dentures may be needed every few years as your bone structure changes.

Home Care Instruction

We also provide home care instructions for patients of all ages and dental health needs. We educate children on how to properly brush and floss their teeth to avoid decay. We also make dietary suggestions based on the health of your mouth and thoroughly go over instructions for any at-home treatment you may need. We’ll ensure you feel comfortable and confident in your dental care plan when you leave our office.

Complete Rehabilitations

Based on the results of the Comprehensive Exam and Aesthetic Diagnosis, some patients may need a Full Mouth Dental Rehabilitation. Depending on the patient’s needs, this type of treatment will involve many teeth and may require restoring all of the teeth. Full-mouth dental rehabilitation is typically performed in progressive phases and usually requires multiple appointments. There are a variety of options for dental rehabilitation and your doctor will discuss which restorative dentistry solution is best for you.

TMJ/TMD Symptoms

Temporomandibular disorders or TMJ refers to the temporomandibular joints but it is also common name for a disorder that affects the facial muscles and joints that connect the lower jaw to the skull called TMD.

Do you suffer from any of these?

  • Pain in the face and jaw
  • Jaw joint pain
  • Pain in the muscles of the jaw
  • Biting/chewing difficulty or dis comfort
  • Jaw joint noise or clicking
  • A change in how the upper and the lower jaw fit together
  • Limited jaw opening
  • Teeth grinding
  • Neck pain
  • Pain in or around the ear
  • Shorter and /or worn down, flat/sharp

An orthodic is a custom made appliance that is worn primarily at night to maintain the neuromuscularly derived bite position. We achieve this by tensing. Which stands for –transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation.

Sleep Apnea/Snore Device

Does your spouse snore? Does he/she keep you up at night?

We have simple and effective solutions. We customize a mandibular advancement device for the treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Developed with advanced dental technology our device improves breathing and eliminates snoring in over 95% of all patients. It reduces the impact of associated health risks without the need for surgery, CPAP, or medication.

How it Works:

When a person’s throat muscles intermittently relax and block the airway during sleep, this device holds the lower jaw in a forward position so that it does not shift or fall open during the night. This prevents the airway from collapsing.
